  Spirituality WT style: it's all business

  isn't it funny to think the wt claims to have anything to do with spirituality?

  i mean, here is a business that measures how "spiritual" you are by the number of hours you spend each month serving the corporation.

  its most respected "spiritual" leaders have business titles like "circuit overseers" and "district overseers".

  I didn't see it when I was in, because that was all I knew. But after leaving the org and attending other churches, it became clear to me that there is very little real spirituality in the WT.

  JWs measure their spiritual life by how well they are living up to WT ideals and how enthusiastic they are about doing so. Those who have an authentic spirituality have it in spite of the WT, not because of it. And what they have is extremely limited. I really had no idea of the possibilities until I left.

  A cult will never allow their followers to pursue an authentic spiritual path because they are too busy using them for all they can get out of them. They don't trust their followers to take that journey, and if they did, it would be a matter of time before they left the cult anyway.

  bailout bank blows millions partying in l.a.. posted feb 24th 2009 1:18pm by tmz staff.

  a bank that received $1.6 billion in bailout money just spent a fortune last week in l.a. hosting a series of lavish parties and concerts with famous singers ... and tmz cameras caught it all.. .

  northern trust, a chicago-based bank, sponsored the northern trust open at the riviera country club in l.a. we're told northern trust paid millions to sponsor the pga event which ended sunday, but what happenedoffthe golf course is even more shocking.. .

  been awhile since i participated.

  like what you've done to the place, simon.

  seems a bit tamer than the old board though.. need the board's input on a sociology question and wonder if some of you might respond.. i can't tell you how many conversations i have had with witnesses and ex-witnesses where the subject doesn't inevitably come up about who is still 'in' and who has 'fallen away'.

  there was a poster named jt that i'd read and relate to.

  he was very experienced and i very much respected his point of view.

  he left all the praise and authority he had because he simply knew it was all a crock.

  Too many to mention, but two who stand out to me are Blondie and Snakes in the Tower. I am always glad to hear from those who are still in, especially elders, because they are able to keep me up with the latest.

  Also, Oompa and Yknot are always a pleasure to read.

  i have just been looking at the news regarding the bushfires in victoria (aus.

  ) and the generosity of people is astounding.money in the millions of dollars has been donated with many more programs and benefits still underway.small businesses have donated their goods and services at no cost to the recipients,and individuals have poured in releif beyond beleif to the unfortunate victims.the bulk, at this time is probably going to the bushfire victims ,but we also now have victims of floods in the northern nsw and parts of qld.who also require aid and which is being addressed.

  my point here is these people who give out of their generosity is not governed by their allegiance to a certain creed or beleif system,they give indiscrimanately to all in need ,regardless of political or religous persuasion.

  I agree. I have been disgusted at the WT's attempt to capitalize on tragedy. They encourage their followers to donate, but make the check for "the worldwide work" so it can be used any way they want.

  A JW friend started sharing information he found about the WT that reflected it in a poor light. Amazingly, I can't even remember the details of what it was. I just remember telling him that either the WT was the truth, and therefore justified in it's actions, or it was the most presumptious organization I had ever known. Once I was able to think honestly about that question, the answer was obvious.

  Then I read "Crisis of Conscience" and "Combatting Cult Mind Control" and there was no going back. I remember at the time wondering how I could have swallowed that hogwash for all those years.

  Thank God I'm out! It's the best thing I ever did for myself!

  Dad passed away...

  my father passed away last week.

  it was not a sudden thing.

  he was in his eighties and declining in health every time i saw him.

  My sympathies for your loss. I'm glad you were able to find comfort from some who attended the service.

  My best wishes to you in your relationship with your sisters. If you are looking for ideas on how to help your sisters get out of the WT, Steven Hassan's book, "Releasing the Bonds: Empowering People to Think for Themselves" is a good one.

  Update: Mrs. Chickennest's cancer

  my dear wife has undergone three rounds of chemotherapy as an inpatient at the mayo clinic in the past two months.

  we are returning to minnesota/mayo clinic this saturday.

  she will begin seven weeks of chemotherapy/radiation.

  well that took me back a bit...but since i have led a double life since third grade...i have become the master of compartmentalizing...and since my exit and since it is now not just to my parents (as a youth)...but now having to do it to my hardcore jw wife....well...it just gets frikkin easier and easier...i now think i am becoming capable of stuff i would have never dreamed of...this is scary.... i have decided i can afford it financially though i dread this at 47, since this is the second time i would lose half my assets....crap...and my wife is a wonderful lady!...hot even!...but i so want to grow and be totally free...damm the costs are so high...why cant i be content with a non-nagging jw wife?????.

  oh...and basically it seems that if certain needs (not just sex!

  ) need to be met...and your mate will never know...than it can help your marriage continue with no bad side effects???
